Gran Fondo Hincapie Greenville 2026
About This Event
This cycling event transforms the Blue Ridge Mountains of South Carolina into a training ground reminiscent of George Hincapie’s Tour de France preparations. Based at Hotel Domestique, 20 miles north of Greenville, the event offers three distinct experiences across terrain that Hincapie himself used to hone his professional racing skills.
The flagship Gran Route covers 80 miles with 8,100 feet of elevation gain, featuring the notorious Skyuka Mountain King of the Mountain segment and technical switchbacks through Green River Cove. The challenging descent down Skyuka requires specific equipment considerations—carbon clincher rim brake wheels are prohibited, while disc brake carbon wheels are permitted. Four strategically placed aid stations provide support throughout the demanding course.
The Medio Route offers a 50-mile alternative with 4,156 feet of climbing, delivering spectacular Blue Ridge Foothills views across a more manageable distance. Three rest stops punctuate this condensed but equally scenic experience. Families and newcomers can tackle the 15-mile Piccolo route with 1,245 feet of elevation, providing an accessible introduction to the region’s rolling terrain and mountain vistas.
The event emphasizes both challenge and celebration, with age group awards for Gran and Medio finishers and a festive post-ride atmosphere. A VIP experience option includes gourmet meals, course reconnaissance, and premium gear. The multi-day format creates a cycling festival atmosphere that extends beyond the ride itself, combining George Hincapie’s professional pedigree with genuine Southern hospitality in one of the Southeast’s most cycling-friendly destinations.
