Silver Rush 50 MTB 2026
About This Event
This 50-mile mountain bike race delivers one of the most challenging altitude tests in endurance sports, starting at 10,200 feet in Leadville and climbing to a lung-searing 12,000 feet. The 8,000 feet of total elevation gain comes primarily from technical climbs on historic mining roads that wind through Colorado’s east Leadville mining district.
The out-and-back course follows dirt roads originally carved by miners and their mules, threading between abandoned gold and silver mines that tell the story of Colorado’s mining boom. These roads remain open to vehicle traffic, adding an element of awareness to the technical challenge. The route begins at Cloud City Ski Hut and delivers relentless climbing punctuated by technical descents that demand both fitness and bike handling skills.
Beyond the physical challenge, the Silver Rush serves as a qualifier for the legendary Leadville Trail 100 MTB. Finish within the cutoff time and you earn entry into one of mountain biking’s most coveted events. This qualifier status attracts serious endurance athletes who treat the race as both a worthy challenge and a stepping stone.
Life Time Events brings professional-grade logistics to this remote mountain setting. Aid stations are strategically placed along the demanding route, and the organization’s reputation for smooth operations means you can focus on the suffer-fest ahead rather than worrying about race day details.
The altitude hits hard, particularly for sea-level athletes. Most experienced participants recommend arriving 3-4 days early to begin acclimatization, though even that preparation only takes the edge off the oxygen debt you’ll accumulate during those brutal climbs above treeline.
