Participants ride on a mix of forest service roads, jeep tracks, and high-altitude trails, with a total elevation gain of over 12,000 feet (3,700 meters).

The race starts and finishes in downtown Leadville, situated at an elevation of approximately 10,200 feet (3,110 meters).
