Nestled amidst the picturesque mountains of Oconee County, South Carolina, lies a challenge that beckons the adventurous souls on two wheels—the Race to Valhalla. Event & Course Info

The route is a test of grit and determination. The crown jewel of the Race to Valhalla event is its challenging route, which winds through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the region.  The Start/Finish is on the beautiful Main Street in Walhalla and the route is made up of long gravel roads with no traffic and includes one long climb that starts from the scenic Lake Cherokee and winds up a steep gravel road to the summit. Here’s a breakdown of the route options available:

  1. Long Course: The pinnacle course option offers participants a grueling test of their cycling prowess. Covering a distance of approximately 72 miles and boasting a 7300 feet elevation gain, this route is not for the faint of heart. Riders will tackle long gravel roads with minimal traffic, a half-hour climb, and scenic stretches along the majestic Chattooga River. Aid stations strategically placed along the route will provide much-needed respite and refueling opportunities, ensuring that participants stay fueled and hydrated throughout the journey.   2. Short Course: For those seeking a slightly less daunting challenge, the event offers a shorter route option covering approximately 48 miles with 4700 feet elevation gain. While still demanding, this route provides a taste of the Race to Valhalla experience, allowing cyclists to soak in the stunning scenery and adrenaline rush without committing to the full distance.
